Today I need you to watch another Powerpoint presentation (yeah, I know, groan) History of Photo from 1890-1910 and get notes in your journal.  Also, respond to your homework blog in class.

Then, read over the Perfect Person assignment. http://yshsphotography.edublogs.org/photoshop-assignment/what-is-beauty-assignment-2

Start searching the internet for large images that you can use for your project. Go to google images and begin searching.  Find a different person each for eyes, nose, mouth, jaw line, and hair. You can “SHOW OPTIONS” right below the search criteria to limit your search only LARGE images.  Choose only pictures that are of the neck and up – you need the features to be large enough that they have enough detail.  Put your mouse over the picture and press CTRL on your keyboard while you click on the picture.  Choose to Save Picture and save it into your folder.

When I return, I will have you guys in the darkroom to finish out your projects.  Sorry!!!

Plastic Bags by Chris Jordan   detail

This is a photograph (the original on the left and closeup on the right) that depicts 60,000 plastic bags, the number used in the US every five seconds, by Chris Jordan.

This series is about human consumption and how it affects our Earth – it’s intent is to bring about change.

1.  Go to http://www.chrisjordan.com and look through the different bodies of work posted.  Of the six different series on display, which one do you find the most thought provoking.  Write 4-5 sentences explaining and detailing your reaction to Chris Jordan’s work, and the images that appealed to you the most.  Be sure to fully explain why!

2. If you could photograph one thing-one topic-one subject-one event, and hope that it would make a change, what would it be and why? What change would you like to see happen in the world?

My daughter has a high fever and I a nasty cough.  I hope to return on Monday.  Today,  I need you to watch and takes notes on 2 Powerpoints.

You are watching Powerpoints 1851-1865 (http://yshsphotography.edublogs.org/powerpoint-presentations/historical/1851-1865)

 AND

1870-1890 (http://yshsphotography.edublogs.org/powerpoint-presentations/historical/1870-1890).

* Click on where it says “click here” and download the powerpoint.  Open and go to VIEW SLIDESHOW.

Remember, you don’t have to write down the info verbatim, but you do have to get the gist of the info!

Once done, work on your digital pictures. If finished, Scavenger Hunt (part 2 if finished with part 1).

No blog this week.  :-)

On February 01, 2005, the Associated Press reported that Russell Christoff, a former model who posed for a two-hour Nestle photo shoot in 1986, was awarded $15.6 million by Los Angeles County Superior Court because Taster’s Choice used Christoff’s image without his knowledge for years on Taster’s Choice freeze-dried coffee labels. A company lawyer said, “The employee that pulled the photo thought they had consent to use the picture”. The damages awarded to Mr. Christoff were for using his image without his permission and are 5% of the profits from Taster’s Choice for the past 16 years.

So, imagine that your image was used by a major company to sell products, without your knowledge, consent, not to mention without the financial gains. Would it bother you?

Okay, so if you said yes (which I assume most of you would), what are your beliefs about copyright? Is it okay for people to download your images to use in their artwork? Is it okay for use other people’s images in your own work? Why or why not?
